I asked my mom why they named me Diane and she said there was no particular reason and I wasn’t named after anyone. But my dad liked it and it was his suggestion then mom added Marie as my middle name and that was that! Neither remember what their boy name choice was because they wanted a girl. Back then you didn’t get to know what you were having until the baby was born. Mom really wanted a May Day baby (May 1) and on April 30 the doctor said she was close. He told her he was going to be golfing the next day so she should wait until late in the evening then drink orange juice and castor oil. Mom said it was absolutely awful but she got it down and at 6am the next morning she went into labor. I was born on May 1 just like they wanted! My grandparents had brought a mimosa tree from Virginia and dad planted it in the side yard of our house. It was still there until a couple of years ago. I wish I had a photo of it.

Love the photos and your layering is so well done....and and what a great story! That bit about the doctor and the castor oil is hilarious. After all that it kind of surprises me you aren´t called May.

PS I´m still baffled about the castor oil.

Castor oil helps "clean you out" before having the baby...works as a great laxative, and in the process of all of that, could (they used to think) induce labor especially if close. Seems to really stimulate the whole system.

Love the page! You can actually see the "little you" as a baby...was that your real bracelet from back then? Loved reading the whole story!! Yes, back then we just waited for the surprise, and got lots of green and yellow as shower gifts!

Yes Pat, that's a little bracelet and I also had a locket around my neck. Mom always dressed us so there was never any doubt my sister and I were girls. It's a good thing since I had that big head and crazy hair thing going on. It's the only time in my life I can say I was "top heavy." LOL!!

I love the journaling and the baby picture with your current picture. How cool that you had a locket, not that it was needed..you can tell it's a girl.

Great layout Diane! You came up with a wonderful layout for 'no particular reason'. I like the two pictures together like that.

Ha! Actually my mom came through with more information just as I was about to start working on this. Otherwise it would have said, "I'm Diane and nobody knows why."

I love this page. It is nice to read everyone's reasons for their names, even when there isn't one (if that makes sense!!). I like the cute little hospital name tag, and love the now and then photos.
