As soon as Joe got home we loaded the
kids into the van and headed to Gresham. We got some lunch
at Wendy’s, and then headed to Amanda’s doctor’s appointment.
She had her 3 year well child check-up at 3:50… Well, it was supposed
to be 3:50, but we didn’t see Dr. Gyerko until close to 4:30....
Amanda did very well at her appointment. First the nurse
measured and weighed her… She is 36 inches tall and
weighs 28 pounds… Then we went into the room and Amanda
got her blood pressure taken for the first time (82/40). Boy, did
Amanda like that! She watched the cuff with fascination, and
then when the nurse took it off she asked her to do the other
arm as well! … Then the nurse gave us a gown for her, and left
us to wait for the doctor… The gown was an extra small, but it
still slid off her shoulders! Not to mention that the “short”
sleeves went to her wrists, and the bottom of the gown
went to the floor! ... The doctor said she is doing very
well. He was flipping through her chart and was
surprised to see that she has only ever been in for
well-child check-ups… I said that we have been
lucky, but he marked it up as us being “good
parents who know how to take care of our
kids.” *blush* ... We chatted for a few
minutes with him, and then he left to
care for his other patients. Then I got
Amanda dressed in all but her shirt, and
waited for the nurse to come in to give Amanda her
shot. (Only one today) Alicia didn’t want to watch Amanda get the shot,
so Joe took her out to the waiting room. Amanda, of course, wanted to
go too, but I told her she couldn’t because she had to get a shot… Now she
must not have remembered what a shot was, because she got all excited,
“I get a shot!” ... The nurse came in and I sat Amanda on my lap, and
wrapped my arms tightly around her. We told her to watch the boys
(so she wouldn’t see the needle) and the nurse gave her the shot.
For a brief moment Amanda got a shocked look on her face, and
then turned her head to look at her arm. The nurse, by that point,
already had the needle out. She said to Amanda, “Do you want a
pink bandaid to go with your pink pants?” And Amanda said, “Ya!”… Then she
excitedly exclaimed, “I got a shot!” Then she promptly offered her other arm
and said, “ ‘Nother shot, dis arm?” The nurse looked at her funny and asked,
“Do you want another shot?” And Amanda excitedly exclaimed, “Ya!” ...
Yes. My daughter asked for another shot.... The boys were
just rolling, and Jared says, “You have GOT to blog that!”
They just couldn’t believe that Amanda would ask for
another shot! They kept asking her if she wanted another, and she said
yes every time. *shakes head in disbelief* ... Then, when we headed out,
Amanda kept holding her arm out to strangers and would say, “I got a
shot!” … The boys raced to tell Joe, and you should have seen the
shocked look on his face! Priceless.... We then headed out to the car…
Because we didn’t have time to get Frosty’s for the kids at Wendy’s, Joe
had promised them that we could go to McDonald’s for ice cream, and
then they could play in the play area… When we were getting into the
van Amanda asked where we were going. Joe told her, “We’re going to
McDonald’s for ice cream.”… And she promptly burst into tears! She
didn’t want any ice cream!… Joe and the boys were perplexed, “You
ask for another shot, and then cry because you get ice cream???”
(She doesn’t like ice-cream. so she got a cookie instead.)

This page is absolutely fab! I read every word and wondered what was going to happen...only to have her crying over ice cream. She is such a sweet little girl and that photo of her giggling in that gown is fantastic!! Great job!
