The day of your surgery came, and boy were you ever scared. I felt so
bad for you. I tried explaining things as best as I could, but there was
no way I could completely take your fear away.... We got to Emmanuel
at just before 7:00, and headed to the Pediatric Short Stay Admittance,
where we got you checked in. The nurse let you pick a stuffed animal
and let us to a temporary room where they took your BP and temp, and
they weighed you (35.3 pounds). Then they gave us our hospital ID
bracelets and you watched TV for a while. Then the nurse came in and
gave you some Tylenol and some “Happy Juice” which was a liquid
sedative. Right after you drank it she put the side of your bed up and
pushed you to the O.R. waiting room. While we were there the sedative
started taking affect, and you got very loopy. I know now how you would
act if you were drunk! You were so silly, but it was nice to see you
relaxed before the surgery, instead of scared. Dr. Webey came in and
talked to us while the nurse got all your stuffed animals and your blanket
labeled. Then it was time for you to be off. We kissed you, and the
anesthesiologist pushed your bed off to the O.R., saying you were going
to play “jet plane” and wear a “pilot mask”... Then it was time to wait...
At 9:40 Dr. Webey came to find us
in the waiting room. She said that
your cord was very tight, and when
she cut it, it sprang up like a rubber
band. She also said you did very
well... Once you woke up they got
us, and we went to where your bed
was in the hall. When you saw me
you burst into tears. The nurse said
it was because you finally felt safe
enough to cry. We then went to our
permanent room, where you slept.
