Journaling:
... Joe had brought a sled for the kids to play on, but with all the steep, downward slopes, I wouldn't let them use it.
So after around 20 minutes of playing, Joe wanted to drive back down the mountain a little, to find a place they
could sled. After pouring the kids some cocoa, we got into the Durango and left... We hadn't gotten very far when we
saw a jeep coming up the road toward us. The roads up there are just one lane, so one of us would have to pull off the
road. Since the other guy didn't seem inclined to do so, Joe pulled off to the side. Then, as the jeep was driving past
us, it's 4 wheel drive went out, and he got stuck. So we spent the next half hour waiting for him to fix his jeep, so we
could go. While sitting there the kids and I suggested to Joe that he might want to put the chains on, but he didn't do
it... Big mistake... Finally the jeep left, and Joe started up the Durango so we could go. The only problem? ... Now we
were stuck too!... Joe kept trying to get back into the ruts on the road to our left, but every time he tried, we slid to
the right instead... And that scared me, because to the right was a steep slope down... Way down... Joe kept getting
in and out, digging the snow, and then trying to drive out, but we just kept sliding more to the right. Finally I got
scared enough that the kids and I got out of the Durango and waited across the road... Eventually Joe gave up and
walked off to find some help. Meanwhile, a couple pickups drove up. The guys saw we were stuck and volunteered their
help. They borrowed Joe's shovel, and used one of their own, and started digging. After a while, Joe came back. He pulled
a tow rope out from the back of the Durango and they hooked it up to one of the pickups... Within minutes, we were
free! Praise the Lord! We all said a prayer of thankfulness as we drove home.... And we all learned a valuable lesson;
Whatever Bob says to do.... Do the opposite!
